Two more Skype visits for WRAD (World Read Aloud Day) this week with second graders at George Watkins Elementary School in Quinton, Virginia. They had excellent questions. Here are Mr. Secore and Ms. Rounds' second graders chatting with me.

I had so much fun meeting by Skype with librarian Nancy Custer Carroll's second graders at Beeman Elementary School (New Haven, Vermont) last week on World Read Aloud Day. We talked about writing and several of my books, especially One Cool Friend. This week, they read No T. Rex in the Library and sent me this e-mail:
It's a great question. I responded with a question of my own: I wonder whether YOU think the dinosaur was real or in Tess's imagination? Do you think the library was a total wreck when she left with that book?

I'm looking forward to my first (of four) books to be published in 2015--my first board book (and my first informational book) in a new series with Abrams Appleseed. The title of this first volume is Whose Tools? and it debuts on May 5.

I'm working on the teaching guide right now with help from the awesome educators at the Thelma B. Johnson Early Learning Center Preschool in Henderson, Kentucky. Watch for its page to launch on my website this week!

What a joyful Skype visit I had with the afternoon students at the Thelma B. Johnson Early Learning Center Preschool in Henderson, Kentucky. Even though we'd planned to Skype on December 15 (as I did with the morning students) the Internet gremlins refused to cooperate. No matter, though. We had a wonderful time today talking about My Bibi Always Remembers, the African savannah, and what it means to be an author. I shared my elephant puppets and answered lots of questions.

Here's a photo from the visit of Ms. Heather Dooley's PM class!

April 8, 2014

What a busy spring it's been for events, appearances, and school visits!

March found me:
  • Visiting Ashley Hall School in Charleston, South Carolina for a full day of student  and parent evening event.
  • Returning to Laurel Hill Primary School in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. I had the joy of meeting with all three grade levels.

Laurel Hill Primary sure does know how to put on a dragon parade! (Special thanks to school librarian Marcia Russo, who is the engine behind all this fun.) The dragon parade is inspired by my Mrs. Skorupski book Fire Up with Reading.

AROUND AND THROUGH THE ENTIRE SCHOOL
    • Presenting at the 2014 SCASL Conference in Columbia, South Carolina.
    • Visiting Pell Elementary School in Newport, Rhode Island.
    • Enjoying the festivities of the March into Reading Festival in Newport, Rhode Island.

April began with the Maine Literacy Connections Conference in Waterville, Maine. What a delight to visit with so many people dedicating their lives and work to family and lifelong literacy.
